🛒 Ingredients
- 3 cups bread flour or all-purpose flour
- 1¼ cups warm water
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1½ teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil
- ½ cup white sesame seeds (for coating)
👩🍳 Directions
1️⃣ Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Stir gently and allow the mixture to rest for 5–10 minutes until it becomes bubbly and foamy.
Add the flour, salt, and oil. Mix until a dough begins to form. Knead for about 8–10 minutes until the dough is soft, elastic, and slightly tacky but not overly sticky.
2️⃣ First Rise
Lightly grease a bowl and place the dough inside. Cover with a towel or plastic wrap.
Let it rise for about 1½ to 2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
3️⃣ Shape the Loaves
Press the dough down gently to release excess air.
Shape it into oval or round loaves, depending on your preference. Lightly brush or mist the surface with water, then roll the dough in sesame seeds so they coat the outside evenly.
4️⃣ Second Rise
Transfer the shaped dough onto a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover loosely and let it rest for 30–45 minutes until slightly puffed.
5️⃣ Bake
Preheat your oven to 230°C (450°F).
Score the top of each loaf with a sharp knife or blade. Place a small pan of hot water in the oven to create steam—this helps develop a crisp crust.
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the bread turns golden brown with a firm, crusty exterior.
🔥 Helpful Tips
- Allow the bread to cool completely on a wire rack to maintain a crisp crust.
- For deeper flavor, refrigerate the dough overnight for a slow rise before shaping and baking.
Enjoy this fragrant, crunchy sesame bread fresh from your oven!
