Sourdough Pizza Crust

Ingredients

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 2½ cups all-purpose or bread flour
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon sugar (optional, helps browning)

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Mix the Dough

In a large bowl, combine:

  • Sourdough starter
  • Warm water
  • Olive oil

Add flour, salt, and sugar. Mix until a rough dough forms.

2. Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

3. First Rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap.
Let it rise at room temperature for 4–6 hours, or until it doubles in size.
(Overnight in the fridge also works for deeper flavor.)

4. Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it inside while preheating.

5. Shape the Dough

Punch down the dough and divide it if making multiple pizzas.
Roll or stretch the dough into a thin circle or rectangle on a floured surface.

6. Assemble Pizza

Transfer the dough to a baking sheet or preheated pizza stone.
Add sauce, cheese, and toppings of your choice.

7. Bake

Bake for 12–15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

8. Serve

Slice and enjoy your crispy, chewy sourdough pizza.


Tip: For extra flavor, brush the edges with olive oil and garlic before baking.
