Sourdough Discard Chicken Tenders

Ingredients

For the chicken:

  • 2 chicken breasts (cut into strips)
  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • ½ cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp vinegar)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste

For coating:

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (or crushed cornflakes)
  • ½ cup flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder

For frying:

  • Oil for deep or shallow frying

👩‍🍳 Step-by-Step Recipe

1. Marinate Chicken

In a bowl, mix sourdough discard, buttermilk, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
Add chicken strips and coat well. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for best flavor).


2. Prepare Coating

In another bowl, mix breadcrumbs, flour, and baking powder.


3. Coat the Chicken

Take each chicken strip from marinade and coat it well in the dry mixture.
Press gently so the coating sticks nicely.


4. Heat Oil

Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.


5. Fry

Fry chicken tenders for 4–5 minutes per side until golden brown and fully cooked.


6. Drain

Place on paper towels to remove excess oil.


7. Serve

Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces like ketchup, garlic mayo, or honey mustard.
