🧾 Ingredients
- 4–5 medium-sized potatoes
- 250–300 g meatballs (beef or chicken)
- 1½ cups shredded cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or gruyère)
- 1 cup fresh cream or milk
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced (optional)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced (optional)
- Salt, as needed
- Black pepper, to taste
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning or dried thyme
- ½ tsp paprika or chili flakes (optional, for a little heat)
👩🍳 Method
1️⃣ Prepare the Potatoes
Peel the potatoes and boil them in lightly salted water until fork-tender but still firm.
Drain well and cut into even round slices.
2️⃣ Cook the Meatballs
Heat a pan with a little oil and cook the meatballs until nicely browned on all sides.
If using onion and garlic, add them to the pan and sauté until soft and fragrant.
3️⃣ Assemble the Dish
Lightly butter a baking dish.
Start layering:
- First layer: sliced potatoes
- Second layer: cooked meatballs
- Season with salt, pepper, and herbs
- Sprinkle a generous handful of cheese
Repeat the layers if you have more ingredients.
4️⃣ Add the Cream
Slowly pour the cream or milk evenly over the layered mixture so it seeps through.
5️⃣ Bake to Perfection
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 25–30 minutes, or until the cheese melts and turns beautifully golden on top.
6️⃣ Rest & Serve
Allow the dish to sit for about 5 minutes before serving. This helps everything settle and makes slicing easier.
