🛒 Ingredients
- 4–5 medium-sized potatoes
- 250–300 g meatballs (beef or chicken)
- 1½ cups shredded cheese (mozzarella, cheddar, or Gruyère)
- 1 cup fresh cream or milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced (optional)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced (optional)
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning or dried thyme
- ½ teaspoon paprika or chili flakes (optional, for heat)
👩🍳 Method
1️⃣ Prepare the Potatoes
Peel the potatoes and boil them in salted water until they are just fork-tender (do not overcook).
Drain well and slice into even round pieces. Set aside.
2️⃣ Cook the Meatballs
Heat a little oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
Cook the meatballs until nicely browned and fully cooked through.
If using onion and garlic, add them to the pan and sauté until soft and fragrant.
3️⃣ Assemble the Casserole
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Start with a layer of sliced potatoes.
- Add a layer of meatballs on top.
- Season with salt, pepper, herbs, and paprika if using.
- Sprinkle a generous amount of cheese.
Repeat the layers if you have remaining ingredients.
4️⃣ Add the Cream
Slowly pour the cream (or milk) evenly over the layered dish, allowing it to soak through.
5️⃣ Bake
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and golden brown on top.
6️⃣ Rest & Serve
Remove from the oven and let it sit for about 5 minutes before serving.
