Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Mix the Dough
In a large bowl combine:
- Sourdough starter
- Warm water
- Sugar
Mix well. Add flour and salt, then stir until a rough dough forms.
2. Knead the Dough
Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
3. Add Chocolate Chips
Gently fold the chocolate chips into the dough until evenly distributed.
4. First Rise (Fermentation)
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl.
Cover and let it rise for 4–6 hours at room temperature or until it doubles in size.
5. Shape the Bread
Place the dough on a lightly floured surface and shape it into a round loaf or oval shape.
6. Second Rise
Place the shaped dough on parchment paper or in a proofing basket.
Cover and let it rise again for 1–2 hours.
7. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). If using a Dutch oven, place it inside the oven to heat.
8. Bake the Bread
Carefully place the dough into the hot Dutch oven or baking tray.
Bake for:
- 20 minutes covered
- 20–25 minutes uncovered
Until the crust becomes golden brown.
9. Cool Before Slicing
Let the bread cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing so the inside sets properly.
