Ingredients
- 1 cup active sourdough starter (discard works)
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 2–3 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2–3 tablespoons milk (to bring dough together)
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Mix Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, whisk together:
- Flour
- Brown sugar
- Baking soda
- Salt
- Cinnamon
3. Mix Wet Ingredients
In another bowl, combine:
- Sourdough starter
- Butter
- Honey or maple syrup
- Vanilla extract
Mix until smooth.
4. Combine Wet & Dry Ingredients
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.
Mix until a dough forms. If too dry, add milk 1 teaspoon at a time until pliable.
5. Roll Out the Dough
Place dough between two sheets of parchment paper.
Roll to ¼-inch thickness. Remove top parchment.
6. Cut the Crackers
Use a knife or cookie cutter to cut the dough into squares or rectangles.
Prick each cracker lightly with a fork to prevent bubbling.
7. Bake
Bake for 12–15 minutes or until lightly golden.
Cool on a wire rack.
8. Serve
Enjoy as-is, or use for s’mores, pie crusts, or snacks.
✅ Tip: For extra flavor, sprinkle a little sugar on top before baking for a crunchy, caramelized finish.
