Ingredients

  • 2 cups dried chipped beef (sliced)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 slices sourdough bread (toasted)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Salt to taste (optional, chipped beef is already salty)
  • Optional: parsley for garnish

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Beef
If the chipped beef is very salty, rinse it lightly with water and pat dry. Cut into smaller pieces if needed.

Step 2: Make the Roux
In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the flour and stir constantly for about 1 minute to form a smooth paste.

Step 3: Add the Milk
Slowly pour in the milk, whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Cook until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy.

Step 4: Add the Beef
Stir in the chipped beef and cook for 2–3 minutes until heated through. Add black pepper and adjust salt if needed.

Step 5: Toast the Bread
Toast the sourdough bread slices until golden.

Step 6: Serve
